LA
Local Authority - a unitary, county, metropolitan or district council responsible for providing local services. The local authority in West Berkshire is West Berkshire Council, a WBP partner.

LAA
Local Area Agreement - begun in 2006, an agreement between central government and the local authority, working through WBP, setting out funding opportunities and targets for improving local lives.

Land Registry
The statutory body responsible for recording details of land and property in England and Wales.

LEA
Local Education Authority - the local government body responsible for providing education for pupils of school age. West Berkshire Council, a WBP partner, is the LEA for West Berkshire.

Leader of Council
The elected leader of the majority (ruling) party within the Council.

Lobbying
The process of trying to influence policymakers, such as the local Member of Parliament, in favor of a specific cause.

LSP
Local Strategic Partnership - LSPs were introduced as a result of the Local Government Act 2000. They are single non-statutory bodies that bring together local public, private, community and voluntary organisations to work together on key priorities for the area such as crime, unemployment, education, health and housing. The LSP in West Berkshire is called the West Berkshire Partnership (WBP).
